Public Brawls: SO HOT RIGHT NOW.
FROM VOGUE MAGAZINE:
Hair pulling, plate throwing, face punching. The public brawl is, undoubtedly, the must-have piece in fashion this year. Making a brief appearance on the West Coast in an Oakland Denny’s last October, we were first introduced to how flattering for ALL body types the public brawl can really be. It made another appearance in a New York Munch Time a week back, where we learned that a public brawl can work for day as well as night! Whether you are experienced in pulling out some girl’s weave or if you’ve never even considered taking off your shoes and throwing a chair at a fellow human being’s head, it doesn’t take too long to understand why the public brawl is making a comeback.
That’s right, it’s totally retro! Although the public brawls of the seventies were somewhat of a different style (generally longer, more activist, less YouTubing ), you can definitely see traces of the past in this truly bold fashion move, dating as far back as pre-civilization Homo erectus.
Prediction: by midsummer, the public brawl will be everywhere. Just yesterday we saw it infiltrate beach trends at a Florida gas station (above), where one woman took the style one step further by ripping off another woman’s dress. Like all fashion, the public brawl is constantly evolving and we excitedly await this trend to make its way down to us lowly, fashionably-crippled squares.
As noted stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe says, “I DIE,” except in this case someone might actually die due to blunt force trauma to the head. FIERCE!
