The first question asked if singles were looking to find love, and we were happy to see that for the most part, people aren’t actively searching out a relationship, but instead are waiting to see if one finds them. And now – the gold mine. According to the study (of over 5,000 singles), marriage isn’t the first thing on singles minds anymore! While in the past, being an online dating site member meant that you were looking for a marriage right away. Now though, it seems singles aren’t sure that marriage is ever necessary. At only 34% of the total population, it appears that people actively seeking marriage are actually in the minority, compared to the group of people who aren’t sure and those who are POSITIVE they aren’t looking for wedding bells!

This may just be one survey, but with such a big population (from such a mainstream site, no less!), it puts a smile on our face to see that so many singles are realizing what we’ve known for years: marriage is slowly becoming obsolete, and finding love doesn’t mean searching endlessly for “The One,” you can just have fun, date, and hook up, and love with find you!

I would just like to be the first to ask which one of you invented a time machine and sped time forward at 2x speed in the past twelve months. Because there is no way in hell that it is already December. Sure, some of them might be heartless money grubbing, demons, but Wall Streeters need some booty just like the rest of us. And according to Business Insider, they may be using their work computers to get some!

The article claims that many Wall Street employees have been using a particular Bloomberg Terminal feature (that’s a computer system that analyzes real time financial market data) to do MORE than just watch stocks. It’s a tiny bell located within the Bloomberg Terminal chat system, and according to the article,

Some Wall Streeters are using a neat Bloomberg Terminal feature as their own version of the Facebook “poke.”

Instead of poking, you “ring someone’s bell.” We’re told by a source that it implies that you’re interested in hooking up.

Of course, this probably wasn’t the intended use for the bell, but we have to give the Wall Streeters credit. In an uptight world of finance, you’ve got to improvise, and “ringing someone’s bell” does have a nice, um, ring to it.

A new study by a group of researchers suggests that casual sex might not be ruining our women as previous scientists tried to claim, and it might in fact be the dating that is causing women to be insecure, self-conscious, and submissive.

Sociologist Sinnika Elliot and her co-researchers presented college students two scenarios and then asked them to judge the motivation behind each. The scenarios:

In the first part of each scenario, a man and a woman meet at a party for the first time and hook up. In the second part of each scenario, the same man and woman go on a date a week after hooking up – and the date ends in a kiss (no sex). In one scenario, the woman asks the man out on the date. In the other scenario, the man asks the woman out.

Excitingly, nearly all the students believed that the motivation behind the hook up was mutual – that both the man and the woman in the scenario were looking to hook up. Very few painted the woman in a negative light for being open to casual sex, and instead believed that they were both free to act on their own desires without fear of damaging their reputations.

However, when it comes to the post-hookup date, where no sex was had, the gender inequality is far more obvious:

Approximately half of the students said the woman ended the date that the man initiated with a kiss to fix the man’s impression of her and show that she is “respectable,” and thus good dating material. And when asked about the scenario in which the woman asks the man out, about half of the students said he only went on the date out of a sense of obligation—a pity date—and that he didn’t have sex because he had no real interest in her and did not want to lead her on.

Of course, we can’t make any brash conclusions about a hypothetical scenario, but it’s interesting to see what the students perceived happening, because they had likely been in the situation before. They had clearly seen women go on a “second” date with a man where she felt she had to redeem herself for “looking slutty” or had seen a guy go on a “pity date” with a girl he had no intention of seeing again.

Sure, this may not mean that casual sex is the 100% guaranteed way to end gender inequality, but it does show that perhaps men and women can mutually benefit from a more modern relationship that is not already pigeon-holed into gender roles (man picks up woman, woman dresses to impress, man pays, woman gives road head [just kidding]). It might finally be time for people to widen their view of what is a “socially acceptable” and “healthy” relationship… and that’s news we’re happy to learn.

To think, of all the times we talked about the cruel consequences of marriage and divorce, we never thought of the children! We’re MONSTERS! Thanks to the Telegraph, though, we’ve been reminded that those who suffer most from divorce have no choice in it – the kiddos.

According to a new study by the Demos thinktank, children whose parents divorce before the age of five are more likely to binge drink as teenagers and later in life.

According to report author Jamie Bartlett,

Divorce won’t make your child a drinker, but instability and stress around relationship breakdown takes its toll on parents and children. Difficult relationships and high levels of stress for parents with young children have been shown to affect children later on and their relationship with alcohol is no exception.

The study went on to show that parents who are “disengaged” with their children, or “uninvolved with their children, and do not structure their activities or set standards for their behaviour,” are also more likely to drink in the teens and later.

How can we combat this growing army of wasted youth? Waiting on marriage, of course. Those who wait to marry are less likely to divorce, so by holding off on marriage and enjoying the single lifestyle until you’re definitely ready to commit, you’re not only ensuring your own happiness, but the sobriety of your children!
