Sometimes you wake up in the morning in a great mood for absolutely no reason. You spring out of bed with a smile on your face and all seems right with the world and yet you haven’t even had your coffee yet! I’m in one of those moods today, can you guess why? Is it the fact that it’s Super Bowl weeked? Well, yes, but more on that later. Is it because I drank some weird Chinese tea last night that I suspect had opium in it? MAYBE, but no! It’s because of this article from USA Today, which listed a ton of findings from Match.com survey that are right up our alley! Check it out:

The first question asked if singles were looking to find love, and we were happy to see that for the most part, people aren’t actively searching out a relationship, but instead are waiting to see if one finds them. We have found that being open to meeting new people but not being constantly on the hunt for a boyfriend or girlfriend is the best way to find a relationship. I mean, just check out our nearly 30 weeks of testiMOANials – they show the exact same thing!

This next poll question, as you can see, is one of our favorites… it shows that online daters are opening up to the idea that sexual freedom isn’t something to be ashamed of! With a whopping 58% of singles saying that they’ve had a one-night stand, we’re excited to see that people are having fun, hooking up (and being safe about it, we hope), and letting relationships and marriages come when and if they do.

And now – the gold mine. According to the study (of over 5,000 singles), marriage isn’t the first thing on singles minds anymore! While in the past, being an online dating site member meant that you were looking for a marriage right away. Now though, it seems singles aren’t sure that marriage is ever necessary. At only 34% of the total population, it appears that people actively seeking marriage are actually in the minority, compared to the group of people who aren’t sure and those who are POSITIVE they aren’t looking for wedding bells!

This may just be one survey, but with such a big population (from such a mainstream site, no less!), it puts a smile on our face to see that so many singles are realizing what we’ve known for years: marriage is slowly becoming obsolete, and finding love doesn’t mean searching endlessly for “The One,” you can just have fun, date, and hook up, and love with find you!

Vanessa is walking away with $75 million, which we’re told represents close to half of their total assets, estimated at around $150 million.
TMZ previously reported several transfers of property earlier this year between Kobe and Vanessa. It turns out, based on the property settlement, Vanessa scored a clean sweep, snagging ALL THREE of the former couple’s mansions in the Newport Beach area.
Vanessa gets the estate the couple was living in, the estate her mom is living in, and she gets the new estate that had been under construction for 2 years and was just completed.

Hey it makes sense, right? I mean, the woman CLEARLY deserves all of that. She worked very hard in the past decade going to Lakers games and award shows and wearing nice dresses and eating awesome food. And hey, she definitely would have made that amount of money if she’d continued her career as a BACK UP DANCER IN CRAPPY RAP VIDEOS.

Oh wait, just kidding. Marriage is a joke.

Did you think My Super Sweet 16 was an awful show? How about Bridezillas? How do you feel about Jersey Shore? And garish displays of material wealth? If you’re like me, your answer to all those questions can be answered with one word: “BARRRRRRRRRRRRRRF.” So, if I were to tell you that TLC (of course! The Learning Channel!) was going to air a show that somehow manages to COMBINE ALL OF THOSE SHOWS INTO ONE, how would you feel? Personally, my gag reflex hasn’t worked this hard since that time someone left a chicken & milk bomb in my car.

Please take note in the preview above that there is not a mention of love, and fidelity and undying devotion and compassion for the person you love with all your heart and are excited to spend the rest of your days with. THERE IS, on the other hand, a whole bunch of mentions of the word “bling.” So that’s nice.

Considering the fact that 2011 has been The Year of the Booty Call, it’s not much of a surprise that it’s also the year of realizing-that-marriage-is-crazy. It seems like each of the 52 weeks provided some new story or study that showed that we as a public are finally coming to see that getting married in your twenties isn’t the ONLY option (and in fact might be the very worst one). Let’s take a look at our top 5, shall we?

1. The SHOCKING amount celebrity couples that split:

Scarlett Johanssen and Ryan Reynolds, Arnold and Maria, Sandra and Jesse, Will and Jada, JLo and Marc Anthony, Sinead O’Connor (is she a celebrity?), Adrienne Curry and that Brady dude, Kim Kardashian and her NBA goon, and many more, the celebrity break ups this year were OFF THE CHARTS. And if a marriage can’t last in a relationship full of St. Barts vacations and million dollar gifts, then I’m pretty sure our lowly proletariat marriages don’t have a chance.

2. 40% of Americans think that marriage is obsolete anyway

Straight from the US Census, we learned that the amount of people who think marriage is outdated has hit an all time high, for several reasons.

3. Marriage is totally outdated, dude.

This post listed three reasons that marriage might have been a necessity back in the Middle Ages, the 18th century, and the 1950s, but is DEFINITELY not now. One of my personal favorite posts of the year.

4. Married people did some NUTJOB SH*T THIS YEAR. And we believe the very institution of marriage might be a good reason for their crazy antics, like say:

Murdering your wife after you asked her to be in a threesome and she fell in love with the other woman

Murdering your husband and burying his body in a hog pen

Trying to kill your wife by driving your truck through a Waffle House

5. People like this are allowed to get married

The race towards the 2012 presidential election is in full swing, with candidates doing their best to avoid the issues and viciously attack each other instead. It’s cool, we’re America. It’s how we do things. Over here at the OBC offices, we feel like we’re in a perpetual race against the pro-marriage types, and it looks like we’ve almost pulled ahead! According to the Washington Post, only 51% of adults 18 and over are married, a steep decline from the 57% of adults that were wed in 2000.

The number ranges throughout the country, of course, but interestingly, in Washington DC (where the population of young adults has grown substantially in recent years), only one in four adults are married! Pew Research center claims that this “a byproduct of a steady increase in the median age when people first marry, now at an all-time high of older than 26 for women and almost 29 for men.” This idea of waiting for marriage until later years, after enjoying young adulthood as a single, adventurous, and open-minded human is our modus operandi, so you can bet that this came as welcome news to the OBC crew.

The Post notes that back in the 1950s, over 70% of adults were married, when the median age of marriage for women was 20 YEARS OLD. Clearly, as marriage becomes less culturally mandatory, young adults are following their instincts and are enjoying singlehood for their best years before settling down. That right there is music to our ears.

Sometimes I think that maybe I’m being a little hard on reality stars. To be fair, I guarantee that if I were in the same situation – offered millions of dollars to act vapid and superficial, I’d probably get sucked in just as easily. However, as a person sitting on a $400 couch in a somewhat shady area of town who can’t find a college course to crash because there are like, 2 teachers at my university, I still feel like the money being thrown at these Barbies could be better used elsewhere.

And when they fail to recognize how INSANELY LUCKY, how UNFAIRLY OVERPAID they are, I just about lose my mind. Take Kim Kardashian, for example, who reportedly banked $20 million dollars off her wedding to a guy she’d divorce less than three months later. Amid rumors that the marriage was all a scam, she released an open letter to her fans, and boy was it a doozy. I have bolded the best parts for easy skimming.

This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. I see all of the support and I am so thankful for my fans, friends and family who are helping me through this difficult time.

I am trying not to read all the different media reports but it’s hard not to see all the negative ones. First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show! I share so much of my life on a reality show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest decision. But it’s who I am! We filmed Kourtney giving birth, Khloe getting married, break ups, make ups, our best moments and our worst moments. These were all real moments. That’s what makes us who we are. We share, we give, we love and we are open!

Everyone that knows me knows that I’m a hopeless romantic! I love with all of my heart and soul. I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed in to something too soon. I believed in love and the dream of what I wanted so badly. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have. I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to and didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.

I’m being honest here and I hope you respect my courage because this isn’t easy to go through. But I do know that I have to follow my heart. I never had the intention of hurting anybody and I accept full responsibility for my actions and decisions, and for taking everyone on this journey with me. It just didn’t turn out to be the fairy tale I had so badly hoped for.

There are also reports that I made millions of dollars off of the wedding. These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this. I’m so grateful to everyone who took the time to come to my wedding and I’ll be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.

I’m sorry if I have hurt anyone, but my dad always told me to follow my heart and I believe now that I really am.

What do you think? Is Kim being legit? Or is this just the bow on the gift of bullsh*t that she (and the rest of reality television) has been bestowing upon us since the very first episode of Real World? Share your opinion in the comments!

This morning my friend sent me a Facebook message that said, “Do you think E! will have a special called “Kim’s Fairytale Divorce”?” and I laughed because hahaha, that couple is probably going to get divorced. Then I proceeded over to People.com and right there, next to Lindsey Lohan getting her teeth whitened, BOOM: KIM KARDASHIAN IS FILING FOR DIVORCE.

I’m sorry, but HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

72 days! That’s how long that “fairytale” marriage lasted. Now, I’m not sure if I can really chalk this up to a loss for the two of them, because if you’ll recall, they actually MADE MONEY off their insanely lavish, worthy-of-a-four-hour-TV-special wedding. And I’m sure their pre-nup was about as cut and dry as you can get, so I’m sure the “irreconcilable differences” that they are citing in their divorce aren’t going to put a dent in either of their pocketbooks.

So, let’s play a little game, shall we? Specifically, the “what could possibly end a loving marriage in 72 days?” game.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

In conclusion, not only does THIS exist, but two people can make an exorbitant amount of money off a fake wedding and then call it of less than three months later. #marriageisaJOKE.

Despite their crying out that we’re all going to hell for having casual sex, it turns out most evangelical Christians have had pre-marital sex too, which seems to prove two things – it’s natural, and inevitable! According to Jezebel and Relevant Magazine,

80% of unmarried evangelical Christians aged 18-29 have had sex. The figure is just under 88% for the general population, meaning evangelicals aren’t all that much better at abstinence than anyone else.

80%? That’s like, almost all of them! That is a B – in high school which is totally passing even though your mom says you’ll never get into college with grades like that! This news is clearly shocking, especially from the group of people that pioneered “purity rings” and abstinence-only sex education. The article goes on to help explain why this stat might be so overwhelming, including the fact that it’s socially acceptable (if not expected) to have pre-marital sex in the 2000s, but also that in Biblical times, it was far easier to retain your virginity till marriage considering you’d barely be reaching puberty when you were married off to another young teen:

Sociologically speaking, the one big difference –- and it’s monstrous –- between the biblical teaching and our culture is the arranged marriages of very young people. If you get married when you’re 13, you don’t have 15 years of temptation.

So there you have it. Even the Bible thumpers are gettin’ down before they tie the knot. We win. The end.
